In the early fall, the crisp air reminds me of eating outside in Florida after the sun goes down and the night air is a perfect 70 degrees. I love to sit outside on their patio and watch all the traffic go by that’s heading downtown. If you want somewhere that is going to leave you full and satisfied, which who doesn’t, it’s a perfect spot for lunch. Located in downtown Valparaiso, La Cabaña is an authentic Mexican restaurant with a diverse menu, delicious and fresh food, and the BEST margaritas you’ll taste. ![]() My favorite is La Cabaña Mexican Restaurant. The white gazebo at the front of the garden is a sight well-known to Valparaiso natives and is the perfect spot to enjoy the changing fall leaves. ![]() Its Japanese garden, trails and bridges, and large array of flowers make it a popular spot for engagements and wedding ceremonies. Meaning “The Vale of Paradise,” it is the home of Valparaiso University and Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn kingdom, neighbor to the towns on the shores of Lake Michigan, and located a short drive from the great city of Chicago. It’s one of my favorite things, especially in the fall. While I love long drives, I have to say the short trip from my college in West Lafayette to my hometown in northern Indiana makes me giddy. My family started making the 20-hour drive to Florida every year when we were super little, and I’ve craved being in the car ever since. I am not sure if I would stay at the Embassy Suites again, but I would go there for the Stacks.This piece is part of a series of articles submitted to The Local Tourist through a cooperation with a 400-level travel writing class at Purdue University. ![]() The staff was friendly and I would eat here again if I ever found myself in Baltimore. Overall, their food would be in line with a pub style theme, despite their name of bar and grill, at lease from the food I had. The to-go containers were sturdy so I wasn't concerned with the quality of the food. I like a bit of heat in my buffalo sauce and this one had the perfect balance of heat where you can still enjoy it while continuing to eat them. The wings were very good and cooked well too. The fries still had a slight crisp to them despite being steamed a bit as I returned back to my room. Dripping juices to some is bad, to a foodie, that means flavor in every ounce. It was still juicy, cooked to my liking and the sauteed onions on top with the lettuce and tomato made for a nice juice dripping burger. The time it took me to have my drink my food was ready and all boxed up. They do not have room service, but you can walk into the Stacks Bar and Grill and take it back to your room. I was only in Baltimore for one night so getting the sites, the ball game and the hotel's restaurant in was certainly a challenge. Am thankful they were still open after I came back from the ball game. ![]()
